...The Zululand Observer is the only bi-weekly newspaper in the area catering exclusively for Zululanders with an audited circulation figure averaging 16800 (readership 93000) on Thursday and 15300 (readership 62500) on Monday. It has a strong community acceptance and is by far the most widely consulted newspaper in the region with a readership penetration of 87%. The closest rival is the Sunday Times with a readership penetration of 24%. The newspaper's distribution area stretches from Stanger in the south to Pongola in the north, while inland it incorporates Ulundi, Eshowe and Melmoth. The core readership area is in the industrial hub of Richards Bay/Empangeni, although all Zululand towns feature in news gathering. The acid test for any newspaper is not only to keep its readership, but to actually expand it. In this regard the Zululand Observer had an impressive growth of 70% in the past five years. History The paper was founded by Reg Anthony in 1969 as a community news service for Empangeni, and having weathered a string of competitive newspapers over the past 35 years, today is the sole Zululand newspaper publishing house in operation. In 1996 it acquired a modern printing works making the newspaper operation entirely self sufficient....

he BAT Centre is an arts and culture community centre found in the small craft harbour, off Durban\'s Victoria Embankment. Our Mission is to celebrate the arts and culture of Durban, KwaZulu Natal and South Africa by promoting local talent and skills. Celebrating our unique cultures and encouraging cross-fertilisation to create jobs for the artists by sourcing talent, imparting skills and developing markets. Also to act as a community cultural center for the city of Durban, the people of the harbour and the Esplanade and to become a resource to outlying arts and cultural centers and creative people.
